Conjugated Aniline Oligomers and Polyaniline

My main research focus in emphasized on electrical conducting aniline tetramers and polyaniline, in the aspects of both chemistry and materials science and engineering. Aniline tetramer is considered the simplest unit of polyaniline. The nature of being a small molecule instead of a polymer offers great opportunities for scientists to probe some fundamental properties, such as crystallization, conductive carriers, kinetics, etc. With much better solubilities in common organic solvents, aniline tetramers also render more processability that can benefit in various applications.

Carbon Materials

A myriad of carbon materials, including graphite, carbon black, fullerene, carbon nanotube, etc, possess interesting chemical and physical properties, and provide a green and sustainable route to make applications. I am aiming at development of new type of carbon materials via unconventional methods, along with discoveries of fundamental properties.

Solid State Chemistry

Solid state chemistry offers green and facile routes towards new nanomaterials. I focus on the development of unprecedented methods for both organic and inorganic materials, especially in the nano regime, which can particularly benefit the fields of energy storage and catalysis.

Water Filtration Membranes

Water is the most crucial resource for human being. The purification of water nowadays is heavily dependent on filtration membranes. The goal is to develop novel ultrafiltration membranes with less usage of toxic organic solvents and materials and higher permeation flux.
